At Misama, we find the pre and postnatal periods to be crucial opportunities to invest in your physical health. We find that many women are under the impression that this season of life is ‘supposed’ to be painful. We know this is not true both through updated research and our standard of care. Our pregnancy and postpartum care include a combination of education, hands-on treatment techniques, and a comprehensive exercise program. We strongly believe in proactive care in the pre and postnatal periods—whether that includes labor & delivery prep, postpartum return to run screening, or a fitness program to improve abdominal strength in pregnancy & beyond.

Common symptoms we treat in pregnancy/postpartum:

  • Low back pain or hip pain

  • Pelvic (vaginal or rectal) pain

  • Sciatica, sacroiliac joint pain, tailbone pain

  • Pubic pain (symphysis pubis dysfunction)

  • DRA (diastasis recti) and abdominal weakness

LABOR & DELIVERY PREP

Did you know that pelvic floor physical therapy in pregnancy has been shown to decrease your chances of severe perineal tearing during birth?

Our labor and delivery program is designed to educate, empower, and prepare your body for your journey into motherhood. Our program includes:

  • Physical evaluation of pelvic and abdominal ligaments, muscles, and bony alignment

  • One-on-one comprehensive push prep focused on relaxing the pelvic floor muscles in order to reduce length of pushing phase

  • Partner support session including L&D education, pain control techniques, and postpartum support

  • Education on perineal stretching, L&D positions, and postpartum expectations
