DRY NEEDLING

Dry needling is a specialized physical therapy technique that involves inserting thin, sterile needles into specific locations of muscle or soft tissue to alleviate pain and improve function. At Misama, our therapists are competency-assessed, certified dry needing practitioners. We use dry needling as part of an integrative approach to treatment in order to decrease pain and allow your muscles to better support your movement patterns.

How is dry needling different than acupuncture?

Physical therapists use needles differently than acupuncturists. While acupuncture is rooted in Eastern Chinese medicine, dry needling is rooted in Western medicine, utilizing anatomical knowledge of the neurological and musculoskeletal systems.

What can dry needling help with?

  • Chronic pain (neck, low back, hip)

  • Migraines

  • Jaw pain (TMJ)

  • Muscle or joint pain (anywhere in body)

  • Nerve pain (sciatica, lumbar/cervical radiculopathy)

  • Athletic performance (recovery, range of motion)

  • Pelvic or abdominal pain
